I'm the author of several award-winning books for the young—and young at heart—published the traditional way. But as the publishing business has changed, I’ve changed too. And I guess I've finally grown up. Now I’m writing comic romantic thrillers for adults, or some such combination of genres. I hope you enjoy them!
I've lived most of my adult life somewhere much like where Kiva decides to start her new life, in the pine forest surrounded by wheat fields. Emma's parents' home is near where I live too. There I've built and remodeled houses, helped plant more than a million trees, and raised two sons, one of whom is Ghostwriter, "the original punk-folk troubadour."
I've piled a lot of brush, some of it for the Forest Service the way Amy does. I've let my husband make the sled runs with the tractor in the snow, but I've sledded down them. And for a few wild years I sang in a rock ‘n’ roll band called, prophetically, Lost from the Start. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in high schools too, as a student, of course, but for a few years as an idealistic and frustrated teacher—and as a bewildered parent.
I've also been writing stories ever since I could write.
